Welcome to Reception

It is our aim in Reception to enrich and extend upon the experiences the children bring with them to school and to provide a curriculum, which will meet the developing needs of each child.

Learning takes place both indoors and outside.  Please ensure that the children have appropriate outdoor clothing.

Foundation Stage – Literacy

• Introduce Oxford Reading Tree characters and books

• Learn high frequency words

• Phonics – initial letter sounds and formation (Jolly Phonics)

• Recognise and write own name

• Free Play – home corner/hospital/Christmas corner

Foundation Stage – Numeracy

• Sorting activities

• Counting to 10 and beyond

• Counting objects – 1-1 correspondence

• Recognise and write numerals 0-10

• Learn names and properties of 2D/3D shapes

• Number rhymes

• Numbers/counting objects around the school
