Admissions policy

Admissions to East Boldon Infant School are in accordance with LA policy and procedures, which can be found at the link below:


All children are now accepted into school in the September of the year in which they will have their fifth birthday. Parents requesting a place for their child in the reception class must complete a common application form.

In accordance with the Education Act (1996), children with a Statement of Special Educational Needs are required to be admitted to the school named in the Statement. Thereafter, the following oversubscription criteria will apply.

Oversubscription Criteria

In the case of requests exceeding the number of places available then the following criteria will be applied:-

  • ‘Children in care’ meaning children accommodated by the Local Authority.
  • Parental home residence within the defined catchment area of the school.
  • Concurrent sibling link—brother or sister only attending the school in September 2013 (to include adoptive siblings, half siblings, step siblings, long-term fostered children residing at the same address).
  • Shortest distance from the centre of the parental home residence (including flats) to main school entrance measured as a straight line using a Geographical Information System (GIS), with those living closer to the school receiving higher priority).

Most children have had the benefit of attendance at a nursery or playgroup before coming to Infant School. The new children will be grouped in two reception classes. They will be admitted part time for the first two weeks. During this time school dinners will be available. All children will be admitted full time during the third week of term.
